Yesterday we spent a little time celebrating the heaven that was just outside our door. End of October/November is Arizona's sweet spot--winter grass is coming in, so there's more green present than almost any other time, the weather is just right for a long sleeve top or sweater, but not much more, and everyone's in a good mood with the thought of coming holidays, but still none of the stress. I could live all my life in an Arizona October.

What have you been doing to enjoy the season?

confession: i secretly want to be an actress.

i took various type of theatre classes all through college, but after one very awkward, freak out, audition, i chickened out of ever trying out for anything again.
(it was bad, like Tom Haverford faking an Australian accent on the last Parks and Rec, bad...)
i wish i were braver.
everyone i've ever heard talk about it, says it gets easier with every try, but i have serious fear of failure, so i miss out on the chance of success.
sometimes i have a hard time being where i am now. i look at those i admire and think to myself, if i'm not that good (at photography, at design, and art, at acting...), i might as well not try--there are obviously too many people more talented than me.
when in reality, when i think about it, i know there are tons of people around me, who might not even be as 'good' as me, but since they're doing something about it, they will soon enough, be better for it.

i've had this conversation inside my head dozen of times, and even with marcus a few more, and yet here i sit, still afraid failing. still afraid of trying.

what's something you wish you would do, but haven't yet?
what helps you be braver?

black and white and green all over.

I'm busy this week taking families Christmas card photos. Should be...fun.
I stress so much leading up to the shoot, and it get so worried during it that there won't be "the one" where everyone is looking (and preferably smiling) into the camera, but once I start loading them onto my computer there are always tons of adorable memories for the family, so I really wish I could just convince myself to stop stressing so much beforehand.

Anyway, that was a tangent.
Do you get your pictures taken every year? Who do you use to send out Christmas cards? I can't decide if I want to do them this year... Isn't it weird that it's already time to start thinking about that?!

Octobers like this are the reason we Arizonian's put up with the terrible summers. Everyday it's 80 degrees and every morning and evening it's in the 60s. It's basically heaven. I am craving some pretty fall leaves though. Thank you all for sharing your colors on instagram, I love seeing the changing colors!

What's the prettiest place you've ever been in the Fall?
Mine was when we lived in a forest in Idaho, but I've always dreamed of going back east to see the colors change!

 Dearest Republica Empanada,

Everyday I crave you. Your warm and gooey bean and cheese empanandas, your black bean salad, and your perfectly seasoned yuca fries. You are the ying to my yang, the beat to my groove and the wind beneath my wings. To quote Lena Del Rey, “baby, you’re the best.” Keep doing what you’re doing, and if you could invite the owl guy back sometime, I think people would be happy for it.

Love you,
Ashley
